Amraoui the man, the artist, the spiritual being, as mysterious as his ancient
Berber origin. The Berbers, North Africa's original and oldest inhabitants, a people
deeply in touch with the origins of man. In 1994 Hassane Amraoui made headlines
in his native Algeria when he took his art into the open air creating a mammoth
work of some fifteen meters in diameter upon rock formations, nature's own canvas.
Amraoui is consistent in his approach his art expressive and deeply spiritual. The
trademarks of his work, controversy, a deep intimacy with the origins of man and
nature, obsessed with the fallacies, failures and the mechanics of an earth
touched by civilization. Movement, incredible studied movement dominate, with
many Amraoui creations becoming more like philosophical books as his ancient
language intertwines with the landscape leaving viewers with the challenge of
interpreting the message within.
Amaroui is a man on a mission, regarded as a patron of internationalism vs.
nationalism or tribalism. His works are solid acquisitions.
